Latam Peace Summit 2016

Latam Peace Summit 2016 (Latam Cumbre por la Paz 2016) was a peace gathering where like-minded change-makers and peace activists had the opportunity to talk about their peace building projects, to unify and come up with new ideas on the promotion of Culture of Peace throughout North America, Latin America and Caribbean region.

Over 50 participants came together to not only share experience and be inspired by each other’s works but also to develop themselves and their inner qualities through a variety of workshops, inspiring talks, mindfulness trainings held by renowned meditation and yoga instructors from the region. Apart from these aforementioned activities, the forum also features other interesting programs including concerts, Living Mandala workshop and the private sessions called Meditation Clinic where participants had a chance to consult with the meditation trainer on their mindfulness practice.

The topics including both theoretical and practical approach were: Conflict transformation and non-violence communication Art and meditation: how can both be integrated to boost creativity? Mind-Body relationship Leadership skills through calming our mind Thai-Buddhist studies on peace Mindfulness and yoga practice

Anayanci Vargas

Anny is psychologist, coach and trainer. She heard about the Peace Revolution project in 2010, since then she has participated in four scholarships around the world with us. Her passions are traveling, taking pictures, dancing and writing. She likes to observe the world and learn all the days new things. She believes happiness and the solution of our problems are not in the outside, happiness is based o​n our state of mind and in the personal quest to find inner peace.

Bridgette B. Barrett (Jamaica) joined Peace Revolution in 2015 as a partner. She holds a Ph.D. Conflict Analysis, Management and Resolution with background in psychology and sociology. She has a love for people and working in communities gives her immense joy. As a research, training, community development and alternative dispute resolution practitioner, Bridgette infuses mediation in various activities. Over the years her love for the practice of meditation has grown as it has changed her life. She has given up high stressed jobs, minimized overexertion and takes the time to be present. She now ensures that more time is spent relaxing and enjoying the simple things in life. She is passionate about helping others realize that peace begins within and recognizes the meditation is an important way in which this can be achieved.

Elisa Laconich

Elisa Laconich has Ph.D in Psychology with orientation in Cognitive Neuroscience. She participated in the Fist Edition of Partner Retreat in the NGO World Peace Initiative Foundation. She works in the development of the neurosciences and the application of the neuropsychology in Paraguay to improve the quality of people with brain damage and healthy people through neurocognitive techniques and mindfulness. She was President of the First Congress of Research in Neurosciences Paraguay in 2015 and President of the Paraguayan Association of Neurosciences.

Marco Bermudez

Marco, from Colombia, is de founder and director of Fundación Becas y Convocatorias, and NGO that aims to inspire people to study abroad and travel with purpose with the help of scholarships. He has been involved with Peace Revolution since 2011 when he attended the international fellowship in Thailand. Since then he has been a regular meditator and has traveled to different countries to share the practice with many others. He believes than real social change can only be achieved by transforming the mind and that meditation is one of the most powerful tools to do it.

Raul likes to experience different topics, specially those related with achieving a sustainable way of living. This interest has brought him to permaculture, natural healing, green technologies, mind-body balance and meditation. He is currently pursuing a master in mechanical design in Germany, developing a sustainable village in Mexico and collaborating with Peace Revolution as a meditation trainer and coach.

PHRA PASURA DANTAMANO

Phra Pasura Dantamano, who once was hotel manager, flight attendant and a DJ, has chosen the life of Theravada monk since 2006. Before becoming a monk, he studied humanities at Ramkhamhaeng University. He has traveled extensively both as a monk and a layperson. He organized several dozens of ceremonies and events in many countries such as Indonesia, India, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Nepal and etc. whereas up to 20,000 people attending. He serves as chief of international relations division of Wat Phra Dhammakaya Temple and Vice President of World Buddhist Sangha Youth (WBSY). He represented his organization and spoke in many Buddhist and non-Buddhist conferences held in many countries. He also conducting more than 1,000 meditation workshops, courses and retreats in more than 50 countries to people with diverse backgrounds of beliefs. He has shared his insights on mindfulness, meditation and Buddhist Philosophy for living full, enriched and balance life of happiness in modern era to individuals, NGOs, governmental agencies, universities, and companies (such as Columbia University, Northeastern University, TEC Milenio, Wilbur Wright College, PUC in Minas Gerai, São Paulo, Santiago, University of Illinois, University of Mendoza, Santa Casa Medical School, DHL and etc.)

Ana Laura Lloveras

Ana was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. She studied International Trade and worked in an international pharmaceutical company. However, she felt that something was missing from her life. She started her journey and traveled around in order to search for the 'missing puzzle piece'. By learning how to meditate, She has finally founded that the missing piece lies inside herself. She became Hatha yoga Teacher in 2012 and learnt Iyengar yoga with Usha Devi (Rishikesh India) for two years. She became meditation trainer in Thailand in 2014 and keeps training herself there every year. She has taught Yoga and Meditation in Ecuador, Dominica, Guyana, St. Lucia, Thailand, Spain and Argentina.

My name is Arturo Dongo, I am 32 years old and live in Lima, Peru. Currently I founded an interactive marketing firm to work on my own, because I felt it was time to do something by myself, to have more time and improve my life quality. After 3 months we are now a team of 3 people and we are doing very well. Throughout my life experiences I've changed my priorities and my approach to life. Currently my biggest priority is to feel happy doing what I do. One of the things that makes me happy is meditation. Thanks to Peace Revolution I found this practice 4 years ago and haven't stop since. I love sports, I have been practicing Muay Thai 10 years and currently managing a social project linked to the sport on Sundays. If I were asked for advice, I'd say the most important thing in life is to follow your dreams and be true to yourself.

This experience marked her life and after a year she decided to leave her current marketing job to explore more what inner peace can do for improving people’s lives. Later on she pursued a Master in Peace Studies and a certification as a yoga teacher. Her passions are yoga, meditation, reading, writing and traveling. She believes that life is a beautiful trip for finding happiness. “At one point in my life I realized that this search is inside yourself”. She currently works as Peace Revolution as Project Coordinator for North & Latin America and the Caribbean. She studied Rue Si Dat Ton and Thai Massage at Watpo Thai Traditional Massage School in Bangkok, Thailand.

María was born in Lomas de Zamora, Buenos Aires, Argentina. She studied acting classes for 10 years. The last 4 ones she used to goes to Escuela de Bellas Artes where she had experienced with subjects about movement, literature, make up and different connection with the actor.At the moment she is travelling around the world with a music band called Aluna which plays percussion instruments and charango. She chooses this lifestyle because she wants to connect with herself and with the persons who decided to share this, accepting the opportunities that life give us.

Paul is a Peruvian musician who discovered the art of songwriting while playing bass and percussion for local bands such as Big Pollo Funk, Lara Nuh, Sandra Muente, etc. After some experiences around the world, he decided to start his own project as a singer-songwriter with the aim of reflecting about life lessons and creating more spaces for grooving the eternal now. His music takes us to a positive and conscious journey through our daily lives. This year he participated in the 3rd Peace Revolution Artistic Meditation Retreat in Thailand and he is looking forward to continue expanding inner peace through music.

David is a Yoga Teacher since 2013, he has studied different styles of Yoga (Atmananda Vinyasa in NYC with Master John T, Hatha Yoga with Mexican Association Yoga Yoghismo and Ashtanga Yoga with authorized Peruvian teacher Pedro Rubio). As a marketing manager for over 10 years, he understood the necessity to bring Yoga into people's lives. He's been studying reflexology and thai massage as a complement to Yoga. Passionate surfer, yogi, traveler, acroyogi. His third trip to Indonesia in 2015, where he was certified in Ashtanga Yoga, changed his life and his heart. Acroyoga pioneer in Peru: co-founder Acropartners Yoga community, so far has lead more than 80 event of this art and has participated in international events such Peru Yoga Festival and Markahuasi Festival. Juani says: ‘People live accelerated and stressed. When I share Acroyoga, I try that the people in the class laugh, forget everything and the group energy reaches their hearts as a healing process’

Galvan, John Friend. In the last years he has dedicated his time to refined his practice and methodology of teaching with Senior Teachers of Iyengar tradition like Lois Steinberg, Faeq Biria, H. S. Arum. He had travelled to India and U.S.A. for certifying so he can have a continuous education and offer classes based on alignment, therapeutics and refinements of yoga.
